Meta, previously known as Facebook, is working to bring more paid services and products to Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Currently, the company’s total revenue comes from the advertising business, along with some paid services. Already there are paid features on Facebook and Instagram.
According to John Hegeman, Meta’s head of ads and business, the company is committed to its ads-based business. And has no plan to offer an ads-free subscription model – Via the verge interview. “I think we do see opportunities to build new types of products, features, and experiences that people would be willing to pay for and be excited to pay for,” he said.
Sadly, John Hegeman declined to say what kind of paid features are being considered. Meta’s advertising business has already suffered from Apple’s so-called privacy protection tracking. Therefore, introducing a greater number of paid features on social media and messaging platforms allows Meta to diversify the company’s revenue sources.
Free to use with paid features on Facebook, Instagram
Our question is, is a company like Meta gradually reducing free services and increasing paid services? We know that Meta is the owner of the world’s top social media and messaging services like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. To squeeze more revenue out of the platforms, Meta could take aggressive steps. Like after the acquisition of WhatsApp and Instagram, Meta forcefully took users’ data and used it to its advantage.
On the other hand, charging for certain services is not illegal, and charges can be taken to create healthy revenue to smooth run the company.
