The concept of smart glasses has been around for a long time, and various brands have tried their way. The smart glasses should display detailed information, which will help in reducing the usage of the smartphone. Also, it should look like regular glasses and not like some extravagant gadget.
Xiaomi has unveiled smart glasses that display messages and notifications, make calls, navigate, capture photos, and translate text. Surprisingly, the look and design of smart glass are similar to any regular glasses.
Xiaomi’s smart eyewear features are undoubtedly more practical and futuristic. One good thing is that it is not limited to just taking photos, videos, and making calls. There is an enormous innovation potential in the glasses segment, and later we may see some marvelous things.ย
Features
According to Xiaomi, it doesn’t interfere with normal usage while displaying important information like notifications, phone calls, etc. Xiaomi has managed to make these smart glasses look like regular ordinary glasses.
So overall, Xiaomi’s smart eyewear can do so many things.
All important “Notifications” – it is obviously inappropriate to display all push notifications from your smartphone in front of your eyes. Therefore, Xiaomi Smart Glasses pushes the most important messages, such as smart home alarms, urgent information from office apps, and messages from important contacts, etc.
“Phone Calls” – you will be able to see the incoming number when people call you. And by using the built-in dual beamforming microphone and speaker, both parties can hear each other clearly.
“Navigation” – This feature will be helpful while driving and other scenarios. It can display roads and maps in front of the eye in real-time. It eliminates distractions while navigating.
It features the “XiaoAi” AI assistant as the primary interaction method. Maybe later we can also see Google assistant or others.
Can Work Independently
Xiaomi mentioned that smart glasses are not the “second screen” of smartphones. It can work independently in navigation, taking photos, teleprompter, and real-time text and photo translations.
Specs
Xiaomi glasses have MicroLED imaging technology that reduces the design space and the weight of glasses. The weight of the smart eyewear is 51 grams. Moreover, MicroLEDs helped achieve a more compact form factor, easy screen integration, longer life span, etc.ย ย
The size of the display chip is just 2.4mm x 2.02mm. Under a microscope, the display is roughly the size of a grain of rice. This small size enabling the display to be fitted perfectly within the frame of the glasses.
Instead of a colour display, Xiaomi has provided an ultra-efficient monochrome display that reaches 2 million nits in maximum brightness. Thus it will give a great viewing experience even in direct sunlight.
It features a 5-megapixel camera on the front for taking photos, text translation. For privacy reasons, an indicator light next to the camera will illuminate when the camera is in use.
Smart glass is powered by a quad-core ARM processor. Also, it has a touchpad, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity, and runs on Android OS. Oh yes! – the battery is also included. Total 497 components are used, including miniature sensors and communication modules.
As of now, there is no information on battery life. And whether we can use it all day is still a question. Price is not yet revealed.
